Discover the stories of the people of Serviam and how they are transforming the way America cares for seniors.

Meet Josh Hinkle, our Professional Services Intern. He assists with tasks in our development department and with our professional services. From the moment he interviewed at Serviam everyone knew he would be a great fit. You can hear more about his story in the video below.

When Josh Hinkle pulls up to a stop light on his motorcycle people notice. At first glance, it appears he has stuck his head inside the face of a pink, fuzzy stuffed animal. By the time motorists in the next lane over realize it’s a helmet Josh is already challenging them in a game of rock, paper, scissors as they both wait until the light turn greens.

“I get all kinds of responses,” Josh says as he chuckles. “Sometimes it’s wonderment, sometimes it’s disgust but most of the time it’s curiosity and excitement.”

Reaching out to others in this simple way often brings a smile to the face of a stranger and likely produces a ripple effect as they share with others their experience from the guy on the motorcycle. Josh’s playful personality is endearing to his family and his co-workers at Serviam Care Network, a company he connects with wholeheartedly.

“I knew after my first conversation with Serviam it was going to be a good fit,” Josh remembers. “This company lives into its mission every day, not only by the work done on a big scale with our network of senior living organization clients but in a more personal way. Our team of Advocates are interacting with seniors on a daily basis.”

When Josh Hinkle puts on his big fuzzy helmet and heads home he interacts with seniors there too. Josh lives with his great aunt and his 96-year old great grandmother who he helps get up each morning, get dressed and provide meals. Josh lights up when he talks about his great grandmother’s long and vibrant life. He is inspired by her character and says he wants to be a reflection of her kind and caring personality.

About six months after joining Serviam in 2023, Josh was awarded his Serviam Wings which is considered a significant milestone. Team members are nominated for their wings by their peers who witness actions that go above and beyond. Team members, Katie and Isaac, lean on Josh for support as a member of the Professional Services Team and have seen him thrive.

“Josh honestly embodies all of our company Core Values though Isaac and I decided he deserved this set of wings for Never Settle,” says Katie. “Josh is not afraid to jump in and help us in any way to support our clients.”

Isaac added, “His thirst for knowledge is incredible, and Josh really never settles in his pursuit of improving himself, improving what we do for our clients and for our company.”

Josh beams when he remembers that moment in July receiving his wings and appreciates how Katie and Isaac push and challenge him to grow every day by providing feedback and challenging tasks that stretch him.

“We have to collaborate with every single department in the company, figuring out solutions to problems that come up,” says Josh. “I appreciate our team’s real drive for success.”

Josh says Serviam fosters an accepting work environment and provides ways for every team member to grow in both career and personal development. However, Josh connects most with the concept that everyone on the team is doing their part to live and work into the Serviam mission – to transform how America cares for seniors. A mission that Josh was living into long before joining the Serviam team.

“Everyone needs a reason to wake up every morning and my reason is my family.”
