Beyond Growth: Serviam’s Year of Seeing the Whole Picture in Senior Living

The senior living industry is facing a critical transformation. Rising resident expectations, evolving healthcare models, and increasing financial pressures are reshaping how operators deliver care. At Serviam Care Network, 2024 wasn’t just about growth—it was about proving that a holistic, connected approach to senior care is the future.

As detailed in our 2024 Public Benefit Corporation Report, this past year was a defining moment for our network, our members, and the seniors we serve. With a theme of “See the Elephant: A Year of Seeing the Whole Picture,” we took bold steps to integrate care, challenge outdated systems, and deliver measurable impact across the industry.

What It Means to ‘See the Elephant’

At Serviam, one of our core values is See the Elephant, inspired by an ancient parable about six blind men encountering an elephant for the first time. Each man touches a different part—one feels the trunk and thinks it’s a snake, another touches the leg and believes it’s a tree, while another, holding the tail, insists it’s a rope. Each perspective is partially correct, but none of them can see the full elephant.

This parable reflects what often happens in senior living and healthcare. Operators, caregivers, and providers focus on their own challenges without recognizing the broader system at play. But at Serviam, we see the whole picture. We don’t settle for isolated solutions—we integrate care, operations, and innovation to create something greater than the sum of its parts.

In 2024, this perspective guided everything we did. Instead of fragmented efforts, we expanded collaboration, integrated care models, and drove the industry forward. Only by bringing all the pieces together can we truly transform the future of senior care.

Serviam as a Public Benefit Corporation: Why This Report Matters

Unlike traditional corporations that focus solely on financial returns, Public Benefit Corporations (PBCs) are legally required to balance financial success with a broader public mission. As a Delaware PBC, Serviam is committed to measuring and proving our impact in senior living.

This report is more than just a summary of our achievements—it’s a reflection of our responsibility to drive meaningful change. Our measurement standards ensure that we are not just saying we make a difference—we are demonstrating it through tangible results.

Why this matters:

Accountability – We hold ourselves to high standards to ensure our mission is backed by real outcomes.
Transparency – Senior living operators, industry leaders, and families deserve to see how we are driving impact.
Industry Influence – By setting measurable goals, we are shaping the future of senior living.

A Year of Transformation in Senior Living

Serviam’s mission has always been about more than just operating a network—it’s about transforming how America cares for seniors. In 2024, we brought that mission to life in key ways:

Growing a Collaborative Network

In 2024, Serviam Care Network Membership grew by 29%, reaching 45 operators and serving nearly 162,000 residents. But more than just expanding in size, our focus shifted toward deepening engagement with our members. Through exclusive masterminds, peer collaborations, and thought leadership opportunities, our members are shaping the future of senior living—together.

Driving Measurable Impact

  • Diagnostics & Pharmacy Services: Over 2,000 residents received diagnostic services, reducing hospital visits and improving early detection. Meanwhile, Serviam Pharmacy grew by 11%, ensuring safer medication management.
  • Value-Based Care Alliances: 1,745 seniors in Virginia are now benefiting from coordinated, proactive healthcare—a number that doubled from the previous year.
  • People & Culture Cohort: Led by Serviam’s Chief People Officer, this initiative connected HR leaders across the industry to tackle key workforce challenges, from AI adoption to leadership development.

The Future: Building One Serviam

As we move into 2025, Serviam is doubling down on our commitment to integrated senior care. With the launch of Serviam Hospice, the commercialization of Serviam Pharmacy, and the creation of One Serviam—a unified platform to connect all aspects of care—we’re ensuring that senior living isn’t just better, but smarter, more connected, and built for long-term success.

For senior living operators, the takeaway is clear: The future isn’t about working in silos—it’s about working together.
